TEN REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD RIDE AT PIRU MOTOCROSS PARK

By John Minert

We often do photo shoots at the Piru motocross track (like this one on Tommy Hahn's Canidae/Motosport KX450F. It has some of the best dirt in Southern California.

Located amongst the beautiful and aromatic orange groves and greenery of Fillmore, California, Piru is the closest track to the Motocross Action Magazine offices in Valencia. Needless to say, we frequently find ourselves skipping over to Piru for a couple quick testing motos or photo sessions. Since Piru seldom holds races and it’s a little out of the way for some, the track doesn’t seem to generate a whole lot of buzz. But, as Piru regulars, MXA testers are continually impressed with the quality track that’s waiting for us every time we need to go turn some laps.  Here’s ten reasons why you should ride at Piru, too.

1) The track is ripped deep and thoroughly watered right when the track opens, every time. The Piru soil is naturally hard, crusty, and leaves a lot to be desired. The dirt on the track is great thanks to elbow grease from the maintenance crew.

2) There are elevation changes, off camber turns, banked turns, whoops, tables doubles, step ups step downs, bowl turns and split sections in variety. This isn’t just another parking lot with jumps build in the middle.

3) The jumps/obstacles are fun for a wide variety of skills.

4) There are always several flaggers present and stationed at the crucial blind areas, which makes the cool over-the-hill and other blind sections safe.

5) There are hoses, so the flaggers can keep the track moist and nice.

6) They keep a modest supply of necessities for sale at the entrance gate.

7) There is a mini track for junior to play on.

8) They are open on most Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

9) Oftentimes, there is a good track photographer who gets good pics of everyone. He later posts them on the web for sale at alsphotoproject.smugmug.com

10) There are usually pretty girls working at the gate.

So, check out www.pirumx.com where there’s a helmet cam video of a lap at the track and get the all the info for a trip to go ride.
